UNSUNG HERO!

This is Mr Yemi, a physically challenged man on a pedestrian bridge in Oshodi, Lagos State, Nigeria. He chose to keep the bridge clean by sweeping it and gets his livelihood from what people give him as token for the recognition of his voluntary service! I celebrate him. @yomiakinsola!

Berger pedestrians need a bridge!

The FRSC  were useful to pedestrians on Friday 8th of August along Lagos-Ibadan expressway at the berger axis. But they have since left this spot posted in this video, which means that is not their primary duty. The essence of this video is to bring to the notice of the people who can influence the construction of a pedestrian bridge in this axis before lives are lost there! @yomiakinsola

Berger pedestrians need a bridge!

I sincerely hope that this little effort of mine in effecting change in my community will amount to having a positive outcome. The pedestrians who ply the Lagos-Ibadan expressway at the Berger axis urgently need a pedestrian bridge, we do not have to lose anyone to road accident before we ast, prevention is better than cure!

BE THE CHANGE!

I turn on my television and and scroll through the channels and the news that is readily available is characterized by violence, poverty, nudity, war, rumors of war, drug abuse, homosexuality, economic recession, amongst others. The picture looks gloomy to the extent that one is forced at times to stay away from the media because of the overwhelming negative broadcast one encounters. Then, can it be said that there are no positive things to look out for? of course not!
The American presidential elections of 2008, was unprecedented but decided based on the eloquence of  Barak Obama and his gospel of change. The major reason for his canvassing for such can be adduced to the way and manner things had gone for the Americans. The people were so divided on political lines that it had overshadowed the spirit which birthed the American Dream! Individualism is what drives people whereby the essence of humanity has been relegated to the background. Values which seeks to bring humanity to the level of divinity has been been deliberately eroded by those who have the economic and political capacity to do such.
The world, as it is today needs people to begin to care less about themselves and start to extend their hands of selfless service to the next person available to them who needs it. There is enough to go round if it is only for man to live and fulfill a purpose of life which is beyond him and to the human race. It should be noted that there are still people who are in possession of the golden heart, but the percentage of such individuals is so little compared to those who are so powerful and influential but doing little to help the course of humanity.
People need to join the train of those committed to enhancing the course of the human race so as see to it that the world really changes for the better and for a lager proportion of people. You do not have to be a millionaire,  all you need is to be a positive influence wherever it is you find yourself!, In other words, BE THE CHANGE YOU CRAVE FOR!

Man's inhumaness to man.

A society is a conglomeration of individuals who co-exist within a geographical location to stand a chance of surviving. The definition given above above can still be altered on the basis of what the internet and communication technology has done, it has turned the world to a global village whereby there is no physical contact amongst friends made on social networks, but there is a relationship in existence thence the possibility of saying that there is a  society which transcends a particular geographical territory or location. For the basis of the discussion being held on this platform, there former definition would be the basis for analysis.
Individuals need each other to survive, humans are likened to social animals simply because, apart from the basic physiological needs as pointed out by Abraham Maslow in his hierarchy of needs where he posited them as fundamental or basic needs of man, social interaction is on the third level of his table. Man is born to relate with each other, the relationship has both side of the coin, which is the positive form of relationship which can be considered friendly and the negative which is conflictual and hostile. It should be noted that not all conflictual relationships are negative because some help to improve the situation of things, as stated by Lewis Coser, some conflicts help to improve relationships.
The basis of discussion here is the need to understand that the friendly form of social interaction within the society is what gives man hope. Each time i walk on the streets in the city in which i live , there is a high presence of hostility amongst the people. People would bump into you and see it as normal! they would step on your feet and go their way without bothering to apologize, even when you look back and try to call the attention of such persons what you get is a hostile look of what is the big deal in what i have done? When i drive, everyone feels as though he is a better driver and anyone less than him should be condemned, there is always refusal to grant fellow road users right of way, there is a haulage of insult for careful drivers, you will hear phrases like are you crazy?, who gave you that car! all sorts of dehumanizing statements are used among people who do not have any form of prior interaction.
I see people behave as though the world is all about hostility and selfishness and this makes me to ponder on the assertions made by the English philosopher, Thomas Hobbes about the state of nature which he characterize as solitary, nasty, brutish, short and nasty. Is the human race going back to that abstract world described by this scholar? This way of life which is the predominant form being witnessed now is the reason why there is so much crises and war in the world, the analysis has to start at the basis or unit... which is the social interaction between men! For man to survive, he needs his fellow man!
